Bespoke Barber Shop for Multi-Award winning Barber’s in Bicester

NJF Shopfitting have just completed a project for for Andy’s Barber Shop in Oxfordshire. This complete shop fit transformed an empty shell into one of the UK’s biggest and most bespoke Barber’s shops. As principle contractor, NJF Shopfitting provided an end-to-end solution for the client; overseeing initial designs and the entire pre-start planning process; CDM compliance, building regulations and specialist surveys, through to stripping-out, construction, bespoke joinery, installation decorating and final cleaning prior to opening.

The new shop in Pioneer Square, Bicester involved a five week on-site installation programme, creating a two floor shop with 100Mtr2 total floor area. The shop fitting team stripped out the existing shop and excavated down into existing ground floor slab and groundworks to create the required height for a mezzanine floor level.

Reinforced steel concrete was applied to create base, damp proof membrane and screed for mezzanine. The steel mezzanine measuring 7.2Mtr x 4.5Mtr x 2.1Mtr created a 1st floor VIP and office area, with 38mm particle board flooring.

The project involved multiple bespoke elements, making particular use of the craftsmanship of NJF Joinery, including eight Oak curved, inlaid privacy screens with workstations, solid surface worktops, framed large mirrors and back wash station to the ground floor. A centre piece is the bespoke American white oak staircase from ground floor to the mezzanine and a bespoke bench seating to waiting area.

Simon Durrell, NJF’s Commercial Manager said: “It’s been great to work with Andy and help to deliver his dream barber shop. It was clear from the outset that this was a project that was going to stand-out. This isn’t your average barber shop and we have utilised our expertise to deliver exceptional craftsmanship and make sure it exceeds expectations.”

NJF Shopfitting took care of all the essential elements of the build and decoration, including electrical, lighting, fire alarm, intruder alarm, audio system, plumbing and ducted air con to provide heating and cooling, and overhead door heater, as well as full decoration throughout. Other safety elements included fire rated plasterboard claddings throughout with FD30 door suite internally and an automated steel roller shutter to rear with external step created.

Other bespoke aspects to the project included bespoke graphics and signage, including illuminated signage and bespoke fire rated toughened glazed viewing screens to mezzanine level. The flooring was enhanced with black and white mosaic tiling, oak engineered sanded, sealed and waxed.

Andy’s Barber Shop owner, Andy Willis said: “I am a barber, not a builder – I had a vision of what I wanted, but have really appreciated the guidance and support from NJF Shopfitting. Right from the outset they have helped us every step of the way and made what could have been very stressful a relatively pain-free experience. I am beyond delighted with the final results and incredibly proud of our new Barber Shop.”
